Ages: 6 to 14

At the very top of the top 10 LEGO sets for boys 2015 and into 2016 is a perfect set for the Christmas ramp-up — Star Wars Advent Calendar.

Always a hit for the holidays! LEGO Advent calendars are always fun, each year bringing a new release from the Star Wars lineup. With the new movie being released this Christmas season (Episode VII: “The Force Awakens”), there is likely to be even more excitement and fun for kids and adults too. Each day, for 24 days, there is a new window to open and find a daily gift. Also fun to play with – minifigures, accessories and a play mat are included.

2. LEGO Minecraft The Cave (21113)

Ages: 8 and up

LEGO Minecraft The Cave comes in as a strong contender at #2 among the ten best boys’ LEGO sets this year.

If you know a young Minecraft fan – and if you are working on a bit of a tighter budget this year (or both) – this LEGO set will be just the thing. :) In the game Minecraft, the cave is a good place to find important resources for journeys and survival. But it’s more than a little bit on the dangerous side – build and proceed at your own risk!

3. LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader (75111)

Ages: 9 to 14

Next on the “best of” list – LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader.

Eerie and evil – Darth Vader might just be the epitome of evil characters – and this LEGO set makes sure that you get even more of a “flavor” of him than ever before. Once he is built, he is posable and is inclusive of various accessories which make him a more lifelike LEGO adversary. =) A new release this season, this set promises to be a hit with pretty much any Star Wars fan.

4. LEGO Scooby-Doo the Mystery Machine (75902)

Ages: 6 to 12

Marking its place at 4th of the top boys’ LEGO sets 2015-2016 is Scooby-Doo the Mystery Machine.

Yeeeeah Scooby! I love the new LEGO Scooby Doo sets coming out this year – and this one is topping the charts (as of this writing) in popularity and reviews. The major components of this set are the Mystery Machine van and a spoooooky tree (complete with hidden gem) – and of course let us not forget the minifigures which include Scooby, Fred, Shaggy and a Zombie – 301 pieces in all.

5. LEGO Minecraft the Snow Hideout (21120)

Ages: 8 and up

Another from the Minecraft lineup makes it to the best LEGO sets for boys 2015-2016 — The Snow Hideout.

Another huge hit in the LEGO Minecraft world! The Snow Hideout is a place to go when on “brrrrrr cold” mining adventures and to stay safe against hostile elements that creep out after the sun goes down. The various accessories that come with this set are wonderful – helping Minecraft kiddos to let their imaginations go a bit on the wild side and have some “serious” creative fun.

6. LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon (75105)

Ages: 8 to 14

Hitting 6th place on the list is LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon.

Yes we are seeing a bit of a repeated “Star Wars” theme here – and no wonder with the new movie being released over the 2015 holiday season. Here is a wonderful new rendition of the Millennium Falcon, specifically designed to align with the new film. If you know of a young Star Wars fan that you’re shopping for, this would be a sure-fire hit (so to speak – haha). :)

7. LEGO City Deep Sea Submarine (60092)

Ages: 6 to 12

One of my personal favorites makes it to #7 of the top LEGO sets this year – Deep Sea Submarine.

A new LEGO release from the “City” collection – this undersea adventure set let’s kids use their imaginations to take a dive in the deep of the ocean, and dig up whatever they find! The sub has a cockpit for the minifigure to “drive” from, and there are even robotic arms and movable parts. A good set for younger kids (recommended age 6) or kids a bit older. 274 pieces in all and includes 3 minifigures and accessories to make the whole scene more fun and lifelike.

8. LEGO Star Wars Poe’s X-Wing Fighter (75102)

Ages: 8 to 14

Star Wars Poe’s X-Wing Fighter is another “no brainer” as one of the best LEGO sets for boys this year.

While we haven’t seen the last of the LEGO Star Wars sets (I’m sure more will be released and quite popular even prior to the new movie release), this one is definitely one of the hottest for young (and old) Star Wars fans. This space-battle flyer is for taking the bravest and boldest missions and is based on one of the fighters from “The Force Awakens” film. Plenty of fun accessories included and 3 minifigures to boot.

9. LEGO City Space Port Utility Shuttle (60078)

Ages: 5 to 12

Another super-cool new LEGO set from the “City” lineup — Space Port Utility Shuttle.

Young astronauts ahoy! This LEGO set is the perfect way to take an imaginary flight into space, complete with satellite (as being launched into orbit) and of course the shuttle. One of the niftiest features with this set is the fold-out doors built in (when it’s all put together), and lets not forget the coolest-ever minifigure astronauts! Not a huge set (155 pieces in all), but is making some pretty big “waves” with LEGO City fans even shortly after its release.

10. LEGO Classic Medium Creative Brick Box (10696)

Ages: 4 and up

The final addition to the top ten LEGO sets for boys during the holidays of 2015 and into 2016 — Classic Medium Creative Brick Box.

Based on the classic LEGO set, this brick box holds quite a number of pieces and comes with all that kids could ever want to set loose their imaginations and get their creative juices flowing. Unlike other similar sets released in the past, this one is geared not only for the older age group of kids, but also for children as young as around 4 years. And – if a kiddo is feeling stuck on what to build, there are some nifty ideas included right inside the box.
